Explore the Real Sri Lanka
5000 years ago, with King Ravana on the throne in Sri Lanka, the first tourists to have visited this paradise island were recorded. Since then, our country has a long history of revered guests. According to the history of Buddhism, Buddha paid three visits to Sri Lanka around 2600 years ago, whilst the Bible mentions the visit of King Solomon to Galle Harbour. Archaeological finds across Sri Lanka show that many people, from royalty to traders, have visited this island from foreign shores.
In the early 1970s, the hippy community arrived in Sri Lanka from India, and relayed the unparalleled beauty they found here to the rest of the world. Since then, this country has become the ideal location for tourists from across the globe.
My name is Sam, licensed tour guide lecturer for the Sri Lanka Ministry of Tourism. Since childhood, I have been fortunate enough to travel all over Sri Lanka. As a former national athlete and retired Inspector of Police in the special task force, I dedicated the early part of my life to serving the country I love so much. After taking early retirement from the police, I became a caretaker of Ashram Sri Lanka Meditation & Yoga Retreat Centre in the south of Sri Lanka. I am spending my late forties sharing meditation and our diversity in tradition, culture and nature with tourists. As part of our ongoing commitment to Sri Lanka and its people, we established a project called Help the Helper, which supports people with kidney disease by giving them free water filters. I feel that Sri Lanka is paradise on planet Earth, so it is my pleasure to show you the country as I see it, offer you the relaxation that I have enjoyed here, and give you a taste of the delicious food I grew up on. I will take you to the valleys, rivers and beaches that have made me happy, and introduce you to my friends around and the animals, living in the jungle. Every time I’ve travelled abroad, Sri Lanka has always called me home in the end, allow me to show you why.
